"I want to see how far I can go with my assists," Thorius said. "I'd like to see if I could break the Michigan record." Vonnie Thompson's 1988 total, 156, still stands as Michigan's single- season record. Last season, Thorius dished out 145 assists. But ultimately, if the Wolverines are to compete for a Big Ten title, they need Thomas to play like a Big Ten player of the year candidate. "I want to get the Big Ten steals record, and at least make first-team all-Big Ten, and hopefully be the Big Ten player of the year," Thomas said. During her first two years, Thomas' Michigan statistics remained consistent. She averaged 12.9 points per game as a freshman, and her point total dipped to 11.7 points per game as a sophomore. Then, last year, her average jumped 3.2 points per game to 14.9. With Guevara asking Thomas to shoot the ball more, look for another increase in her point total "I told Stacey, 'Shoot the ball whenever you can,"' Guevara said. "If she wants to go to the next level, she needs to score. Part of that is making layups and free throws. Then, her scoring will go up. She's been shooting the ball well in practice."
