KICKB OXING CRAZE PHOTOSTORY BY JESSICA JOHNSON, DAVID KATZ AND SAM HOLLENSHEAD The latest trend in fitness, kickboxing is an enjoyable way to gain mental and physical strength. In Ann Arbor, kickboxing is offered at the CCRB through 'U Move' or at the YMCA. Some of the many benefits of kickboxing include cardiovascular fitness, improved strength and muscle tone, self-defense training, stress reduction and increased confidence. The presence of kickboxing in the United States is increasing, but still has far to go before it gains equivalent popularity to Thailand, where it is considered a national past time. In Thailand, kickboxing developed from the military use of swords and spears during the 1600s. It later became a military technique and eventually was adapted into the competitive art of today.
