It should then be no surprise that the finalists for Best Apartment Locator were all Websites. Such sites offer users quick property search capabili- ties, as well as providing the anonymi- ty many students want while looking around for housing. This year's winner edges out other online competitors to triumph as Best Apartment Locator. Founded by three University stu- dents, RentDetective provides the abil- ity to search Ann Arbor properties online. On RentDetective.com, users are able to search for listings by lease type, property style, location on cam- pus, number of bedrooms and price range, allowing them make their search as broad or as narrow as they choose by entering which criteria are important to them in their housing search. Students can retrieve listings of both leases and sublets for apartments and houses located in a specified area around campus. The visitor can even return to a specific listing at a later date just by entering its reference num- ber. Editor Some people might roll their eyes in exasperation upon learning the Central Campus Recreation building was once again voted the best place to work out on campus in the Best of Ann Arbor poll. Same people wouldn't think of crafting a college schedule without a rock-solid slot for regular workout time at the CCRB. Many members of those two groups of people are the same. A conundrum, newcomers might ask? Not really - there are a range of expla- nations to choose from. Some people, as any campus veteran can tell you, just thrive on looking for something to com- plain about, and don't consider their devotion to the CCRB at all odd in com- parison with their habitual criticism of the facility. Some people simply don't feel any other local option is viable - the North Campus Recreation building or outlying private gyms pose too inconvenient a commute for them, but that doesn't blot out their legitimate and deeply felt gripes about the inconvenient corwds and red tape a recreation seeker often endures at the CCRB. "I'm not going to miss it, that's for sure," said LSA senior Stan Gazzara, on his prospects of graduating and turning in his locker key at the CCRB. "I'm tired of having to get up at 6:30 in the morning if I don't want (a) mob" of fellow students to compete with for space to complete his workout, he explained. Meanwhile, other students actually expressed the wish that the CCRB would open before its usual hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., indicative of a deep-seated Puritan work ethic. But these aren't completely negative complaints, upon further and more sub- dued contemplation. The bustling crowds of students jockeying for time at the CCRB, and the desire for extended hours on the part of others, points to the exten- sive facilities for a long list of athletic pursuits available at the long-suffering CCRB, with a variety that's hard to match anywhere else. Those in search of individual workout options, be they in the weight room, the swimming pool or the throes of a stair- stepping frenzy, are at no less recourse for options than those students who want to enjoy a group activity like basketball, racquetball or water polo. Students also seem more willing to put up with certain limited-scale objections as the weather gets warmer and working out becomes more of a priority. Another complaint is the location. Kinesiology sophomores Corwin King and Sara Freeh were among those who cited the ratcheting up of interest in physical fit- ness as summer approached and looking good during outdoor activities became a greater cause for concern. Both OrangeSorbet. com and SubletSource.com also provide stu- dents with similar services and are both also based in Ann Arbor. Although the other two sites also hold most of the same features, RentDetective is the only site that only has information for the Ann Arbor Area. The other Websites have infor- mation about other campuses, but the energy required to expand into multi- ple campuses might have prevented them to focus on Ann Arbor as intent- ly as RentDetective.com has. It might be because RentDetective has not . expanded outside of Ann Arbor that they are first in the rankings With the ease of use and positive feedback commented by the site's users, it no wonder that RentDetective is also this year's Best Business. The following workout program is formulated to fit the hectic, high- caloric, sometimes unhealth lifestyle of college students. t is NOT a professional recommenda- tion or expert opinion, but it does combine cardiovascular with muscle-building activity, and it burns mucho calories without a huge time commitment. Do 3 sets of 12 repetitions each of several free weight exercises: Bicep curls, overhead tricep exten- sions, lateral presses, shrugs and rowing. Some variations are OK. Use one barbell on each hand of a manageable weight. The point's the reps, not your muscles' limits. After every set, do 10 to 20 stomach crunches to keep your heart rate going, then back to work. Do this three times a week. It takes less than 45 minutes and most of your calories get burned after, as your system cools down.
