By Dan Williams Daily Sports Writer YPSILANTI (AP) - Jim Boone, who revived a stagnant Robert Morris program, is now faced with doing the rsame at Eastern Michigan. Boone, who guided Robert Morris to within a game of the NCAA Tournament this season, was introduced at a news conference yesterday as the new coach of the Eagles, replacing Milton Barnes. Robert Morris won just nine games in the two seasons preceding Boone's arrival at the school in 1996, but he com- piled a 33-24 record over the last two years. Tar Heels to hold court in Indy, not Chapel Hill CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina guards Ed Cota and Terrence Newby no longer have a court date that conflicts with a possible appearance in Monday's NCAA title game. Cota and Newby had been scheduled to appear in court Monday to face charges in a Halloween night brawl. ,*But the hearing was delayed Tuesday for the fourth time since December. No rnew date was set, The big inningecontinues to plague the Michigan baseball pitchers. Freshman Brad McCloskey is the latest to be victimized, giving up three runs in the first inning of Michigan's 11-4 loss to Western Michigan yester- day. McCloskey allowed five runs in three innings before being removed by Michigan coach Geoff Zahn. "He was keyed up quite a bit and he got behind hitters. Then he had to come in with the fastball, and they knew it," Zahn said. "When hitters know what is coming, they're obviously better hit- ters." ln his first start at Ray Fisher Stadium, McCloskey gave up eight hits and two walks. He became the fifth Michigan starter in a row to get the los- ing decision. "Basically, I was telling him in the bullpen, when he was showing signs of being nervous, that he was overthrow- ing," Zahn said. "Hie has a tendency to jumnp at the plate, and I told him to relax and settle down and throw strikes like he has been for most of the year." In his last two outings - appear- ances against Minnesota and No. 18 Miami - McCloskey pitched 4. 1 scoreless innings. CORRECTING THE MISTAKES: Sophomore Bobby Korecky will be on the hill today for the Wolverines with the unenviable task of halting the team's eight-game winless streak when Michigan hosts Bowling Green. "It's on the pitcher~s shoulders a lot to avoid big innings and walks. If I can stay out of the big innings, I think our hitting will pick us right up," Korecky said. As difficult as it is to utter the phrase this early in the season, the Wolverines appear mentally to be going into the game with their backs against the wall. "It all comes down to having confi- dence in each other," Korecky said. "It's very important that we win (today)." One of the major problems for the staff has been spending too much time pitching from the stretch. Walks, hits and errors have prevented Michigan starters from truly finding their rhythm. "We've struggled a little bit in the field, and all of a sudden, one thing leads to another, and guys are on base who shouldn't be. I think our pitching is okay right now, we're just not putting a full game together," Korecky said. Korecky enters the contest with a 6.62 ERA and a 1-1 record. He worked 2.2 innings against Minnesota Friday.
