Monkey
Island

The monkeys were getting restless
now. It was seven a.m. and by eight
o'clock, Brown Man would be com-
ing in to give them their morning
chow. Brown Man was the keeper of
Monkey Island, the zoo's faux-habi-
tat of African monkey wildlife.
Every day at the same time Brown
Man came to give the monkeys their
real food, grain and horse-meat
chow. When they were on display on
the island, they were given little bits
of lettuce and fruit, but this was
mainly for the purpose of the pub-
lic's interest. Everybody always
thought the monkeys ate like kings.
Not that they had it bad, but it wasn't
in the zoo's best interests for reasons
of profit to be buying top-grade food
for the monkeys.
