This year, Project Serve added a special School of Art and Design site to their already impres- sive list of Alternative Spring Break locations across the country. Student volunteers raised funds and gathered donat- ed art supplies for the Notre Dame School and Day Care for children of low-income families and Haitian refugees. "The School is funded byS the Head Start Program," sophomore site leader Rachel Feerman said. "Which gives these kids an incredible opportunity for education and growth that they wouldn't nor- mally have." Students assisted teachers in each classroom and organized art projects and after school activities. "Most of the kids were around five- or six-years-old, but some were as young as two and three," sophomore Molly Jo Sloat said. "We fell in love with them the minute we stepped into the classroom." Emotional bonds grew throughout the week, and the volunteers arrived back home with many pleasant memories of the Alternative Spring Break experience. "It's so encouraging to see these kids learn- ing and interacting in such a creative environment," Fife said. "It's such an affirming space. It was really beautiful to be able to be a part of it."
