The Michigan Daily - Monday, February 15, 1999 - 7A .Cutting the Ice BONE Continued from Page 1A ed in time for the April 16 "Bone Buyers Bash." "I'm excited about it. It's supposed to be the most complete (exhibit) in the Midwest," said museum docent and Engineering senior Jesse Tryon. "That is pretty cool because it's right here at home" Other museum staff said they are also excited. "The exhibit is part of the plan to upgrade exhibits," said "Buy-a-Bone" organizer Dan Madaj. "I'm excited to see us expand and elabo- rate what we have. It's the beginning of a long process to upgrade and renovate." To help fund the new pterodactyl exhibit, those interested in sponsoring a bone, immortalizing their names or organization's name on a plaque or giving a unique gift can call 763-4190 or visit the Exhibit Museum before the "Buy-a-Bone" pro- gram becomes extinct April 9, 1999. CARR Continued from Page 1A had a hard time keeping a straight face. Jody Tull Tyler, one of the play's two writers, first approached Carr about singing with the Junior Choir in September. "I cornered him at church," Tyler said. "Then I persisted with phone call after phone call." Finally, Carr told her they could discuss it on a weekday afternoon - for just 15 minutes. But Carr allowed those 15 minutes to become an hour and a half, and Tyler had the inspira- tion for her play - Carr's views on sportsman- ship. "He just talked and talked, and I wrote it all down," Tyler said. Then Tyler and co-writer Sharon Jaqua sat down and put Carr's words to music. After the play was written Tyler and Jaqua real- ized they needed an athlete. They turned to Carr, who recruited Jones. Sharing top billing with Carr, Jones played Mr. Poor Sport in the short musical, which was performed with about 20 children ages seven to 12. The play centered around Mr. Poor Sport, a sore loser who believes in crying after losses, beat- ing up on opponents and cheering when enemies suffer injuries. Jones' lines included, "Leave me alone, kid," "Mind your own business" and "I've been cut from 100 schools, I always lose." "He was very well prepared," Tyler said. "He'd probably never admit that he practiced and rehearsed, but he was 100 percent pre- pared." Jones looked at ease on the stage with the chil- dren, like an older brother, drawing praise from parishioners and Tyler. "He takes an interest in the kids," Tyler said. "And it's not superficial. He's very sincere." In the play, the children wanted to teach Mr. Poor Sport to be a good sport. IMPEACH Continued from Page 1A Republicans, has seven times asked for the naming of an independent counsel to investigate administration officials, most notably Starr who has pursued President Clinton's connections to Whitewater, Travelgate, the FBI files and finally his affair with Monica Lewinsky, which led to Clinton's impeachment. Democrats contend that Starr abused the almost unlimited powers the act gives an independent counsel, while Republicans have joined Democrats in protesting the amount of money spent. Starr has spent more than $40 million during more than four years investigat- ing the president. Another independent counsel, Donald Smaltz, took four years and $17 million looking into cor- ruption charges against former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy. Espy was acquitted of those charges, and Clinton was found innocent of impeachment charges that grew out of Starr's investigation. Republicans said they are unhappy about past independent counsel activities during GOP administrations and about Reno's decisions not to seek independent counsel for possible Democratic cam- paign fund-raising violations.
