After that, Mungia and Falcon had a $2 million and "Six-String" had new life.' With only $2 million - almost nothing by feature film standards - Mungia and Falcon crafted a film that belied its budget. And that came mostly from their approach. "I wanted to get a real sense of style and scope," Mungia said, and he did this by combining the Japanese and Hong Kong approaches to action. Falcon took this idea and ran with it. "I wanted to do stuff like in -Hong Kong, but in a tamer way." As result, the film does not have much blood and landed a PG-13 rating. After the completion of "Six- String," the film played at the Slamdance and South by Southwest. film festivals, where it garnered a. lot of critical attention. But most notably, "Six-String" gained the attention of Ain't It Cool #4ews guru Harry Knowles. Using his Website to spread the. word on the film, Knowles created much anticipation for "Six-String," and also high expectations.' Although Mungia credits Knowles', as "a great, great supporter of the film," he also thinks Knowles might have built too high an expec- tation for "Six-String." But despite some critical back- lash, Mungia is quick to point out, hat "There have been a lot of crit-k ics that love the film."
