Susan Meiselas is famous for her photographs of war capturing the revolutions in Nicaragua a
taking those pictures, she was in the middle of all the action, as if she was a soldier fightin in the wi
documents the surroundings the same way she would with her heart. Her pictures may include guns o
also show much more. Meiselas has witnessed countries at battle and she shows what war means to tl
ians of those countries.
Melselas is a New York Magnum Photographer, and with a National Endowment for the Arts grn
School of Art and Design invited her to stay in Ann Arbor so she could talk with students and facul
about her career as a documentary photographer. During her stay, University assistant Prof. Carol Jac
students hosted her while she talked with undergraduates and graduates. Students were also invited t
with Meiselas for a more intimate discussion.
At the end of the week she lectured at the School of Art and Design to a large crowd that asked ma
what it is like to shoot fascinating people and places.
Susan Meiselas is one of eight visiting photographers. Connie Samaras will be in Ann Arbor Oc
Willams will visit Nov. 20.
