Last season's fullback Chris Floyd
"will be as tough to replace as anyone on
our football team," Carr said.
Sophomore Ray Jackson tried to fill
the void left by Floyd against the
Fighting Irish. Although he fumbled
once, Jackson looks like the primary
fullback for the Wolverines. Aaron Shea,
formerly a tight end, also saw time in the
backfield and carried the ball once
against Notre Dame. Freshman Evan
Coleman is also expected to play
although he didn't appear in the game
against the Irish.
Demetrius Smith, projected to see sig-
nificant playing time, suffered a knee
injury and is out for the season.

The good news is that Michigan has
one of the largest and most talented
offensive line corps in the country,
returning four of five starters. The bad
news is that center Zack Adami is the
one who graduated.
Offensive lines are generally built
from the inside out, placing the best
blocker in the middle. Attempting to fill
his shoes is Steve Hutchinson.

- as a guard.
"This whole summer I've been work-
ing on the center position, doing snaps
and footwork," Hutchinson said. "It all
comes pretty natural, but it's different in
a live situation."
While the center is the focal point of
the offensive line, the anchor is undoubt-
edly right tackle Jon Jansen. The senior
co-captain an All-America candidate.
But just as important is what he brings to
the team experience-wise.
