students gather one year after wrestler's death

The Michigan Daily - Thursday, December 10, 1998 - 7A
Okay, here's the latest"

REESE
Continued from Page 1A
Students' voices lowered as they asked each
other about the emotional condition of Reese's
parents.
From his home in Wellsburg, New York, Edwin
,ese, Jefferey's father, said he took comfort in know-
g his son's friends, teammates and classmates con-
tinue to remember Reese.
"Today is a very rough day, as are all of them, but
it's nice to know students are thinking of Jeff at this

time," Edwin Reese said.
The headlights of several vehicles parked around
the rock provided light for the students as they drib-
bled gallons of white paint on the Rockand on each
other.
"It's a unifying thing," said Kinesiology senior
Brian Aparo, one of Reese's teammates. The rock "is
a symbol of Michigan. It's something that will always
be at Michigan, and Jeff's heart and spirit will always
be here at Michigan."
LSA senior Tanja Wenzel stood covered in paint as
she recalled Reese's personality and expressed what

the vigil meant to her.
"We've all been thinking over the last week of
something special we could do," Wenzel said. "This is
a wonderful way of letting everyone else know that
we're still thinking about him."
Despite cold temperatures, some students who had
never met Reese came to carry on his memory.
"It's good that everyone came out to remember
Jeff," said LSA first-year student and Michigan
wrestler Tony Holifield. "He loved his sport."
- Daily Staff Reporter Katie Plona contributed to
this report.
