NHL rights: Phoenix Sport: Hockey Year: Freshman Position: Goalkeeper Why: The freshman had his best weekend of the season, recording 33 saves and allowing just one goal in the Wolverines two victories over Michigan State and Notre Dame. Possibly his best save was a mind- boggling one in the closing seconds of the Michigan State game with the Spartans' goaltender, the unrelated Joe Blackburn, on the bench. The Michigan Blackburn's stellar goalkeeping helped the Wolverines take four points away from a weekend in which they scored just three goals, and put the Wolverines in a tie for first place in the CC HA. Background; Born in Texas, grew up in Alaska, has lived in Montana and Iowa ..-- played for the Great Falls (Mont.) Americans in the American Frontier Hockey League one season before teammate sopho- more Josh Langfeld .., took up netminding because pads looked "cool," 01 Staff Picks -- all picks made against the spread. * Guest selectors have been rotating throughout the season. Last week's guest selector was University Provost Nancy Cantor.
