The Michigan Daily - Friday, March 20, 1998 -13 'Brady to start at B, for now PRACTICE Continued from Page 11 The spring is an ongoing competitive situation." With the first game more than five months away, Brady's job is far from set 'n stone as Carr has just reached the Snt where he can evaluate Kapsner on a level playing field with Brady and Dreisbach. "Jason Kapsner has improved," Carr said. "But he needs to show he can lead a team. For a quarterback, that means getting your team into the end zone." Kapsner, who redshirted two years ago when Griese and Dreisbach split time and rarely played last season, is finally at the point where he knows the offense and is able to "react," Carr said. "He doesn't have to do as much think- ing as a guy who just walks in," he said. Unfortunately for him, that guy who is about to walk in - Brighton senior Drew Henson -- is one of the nation's top quarterback recruits. Carr refused to stamp out the possibility that Henson could win the job, but remained cau- tious about naming anyone other than Brady. "You have to be willing to change as the situation dictates," he said. "I'm not ruling out anything." Michigan coaches are restricted to just 15 practices with their team over the next few weeks. One of those is the spring game, which will take place at Michigan Stadium on April 18 at 1 p.m. "It's just one day," Carr said. "It's the most fun day for the players. But it's just one of 15 in terms of what we're trying to accomplish.' SWIMMING Continued from Page 11 "She swam a great race," Richardson said. "She was so close, only half a stroke away." In addition to Eberwein, Michigan also placed its 200 medley relay team on the podium with a second place fin- ish. The time of 1:30.35 was a team record. Eberwein swam the 50 backstoke, senior Talor Bendel the 50 breaststroke, Jennifer Crisman in the butterfly, and Shannon Shakespeare in the 50 free. "We're really excited," Bendel said. "It was a great swim for us cause it broke the pool record and was our fastest time ever. It's just the best." For the Cardinal, Fox won the 50 free and led off the 400 medley relay. Ordinarily, most swimmers are content with winning first place in an event, but Fox isn't an ordinary champion. "I wanted to go faster," Fox said. "But then I always want to go faster. However, I really can't complain about first place. "What can I say? I like to win." While Richardson said he. was pleased with Michigan's results todaty, he said he believes his team can swim faster. "Shannon (Shakespeare) is a little under the weather," Richardson said. "We just have to have her healthy again, and we could really swim fast." In today's events, the Wolverines will showcase their 200-medley team, which is bringing in the third best time in the nation. RESTLING Continued from Page 11 Palmisano of Rider before narrow- ly decisioning Ben Perkins of Iowa State, 5-4. Despite the victories, Michigan coach Dale Bahr was not completely satisfied with his team's wrestling. "Both Lacure and Catrabone just shut down at the end of their match- es," Bahr said. "They got an early lead and sat on it, and you can't do that at this level. "They know that. If they wrestle like that in the tomorrow they're not going to win. Lacure will face the fifth seed, est Virginia's Mike Mason, while Catrabone squares off against fourth- seeded Casey Strand of Arizona State. "Both are tough matches so they better get in gear because they are going to be challenged," Bahr said. At heavyweight, second-seeded Richardson recieved a win by default over Rider's Marc DeFrancesco, five mutes into his match. He went on to efeat Ricker Krieger of Lock Haven, 10-2, to advance. Richardson will wrestle Illinois' seventh-seed Karl Roesler later today. Warren will try to defeat Purdue's 126-pound wrestler Josh Hutchens. The eighth-seeded Warren must win to remain in the tournament. "I'm very pleased with the way Joe is wrestling," Bahr said. "They key for him now is to stay in the tourna- ment. He has to continue to win to gain All-America status." In order to be named an All- American, a wrestler must place in the top eight of his weight class. The tournament continues through tomorrow.
