They roller-skated to the sound of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It" in dimly lit arenas under the sparkle of a disco ball. They rode bicycles, but wore no helmets. To many students, the '80s were easy. But the '90s ... "Growing up in the '80s was sim- pler. We had simple pleasures," said Grace Son, an LSA sophomore. "For my little brother, so much has to do with electronics. When we were lit- tie, it was more about just pretending to be Superman." LSA sophomore Katrina Blank shared the sense of nostalgia, mourn- ing for "Strawberry Shortcake and Transformers. They're now obso- lete." Like Sega replacing Atari, '90s technology has transformed growing up. "There's the Internet, the free flow of information," said Victor Delatorre, an Engineering senior. "You gotta keep up with all that or you get left behind." Today's growing pains certainly seem different, and it's not just the toys that have changed.
