14 - The Michigan Daily - Friday, Jan

uary 30, 1998 /
30, 1998 OUR LAST HURRAH
Oh, the places we went!
u0
Congratulations!
Today is our day
After years at the Daily
Wat do we say?
-~ We had pens in our hands
and cameras in tow
We had so many ideas
of where this paper could go.
The same day as Bollinger began, we did too
He became the new President, and we the new voice of the 'U.'
The transition was over, our first day had come
It was our turn to carry on 107 years of editorial freedom
We looked all around campus. Up on the north part, too.
To report on the University, the city and You.
It wasn't all easy,
We had rough times, too-
We tried to help each other
As friends often do.
Summer brought changes over here and over there,
In fall, students found the 'M' missing from the central square
It came back just before exams with a bright new look
Ready to be stepped around for the sake of a bue book.
Oh the Places we Went!
From the first day of classes
the Athletic Department was news , *
Goss ot a new job
and freshmen had split-season ticket blues.
It was on"y a matter of time
before the admissions' profile grew higher
U of M got sued not once, but twice
LSA and the Law School under fire.
The leaves fell on the Diag
MSA flyers blew about
The NCAA grilled the basketball team
And coach Steve Fisher fouled out.
The "Yo-Lee" party arrived
on a beautiful September day

The 12th President inaugurated
in a carnival-like way.
At the inauguration, academics came
to welcome the president in
But a different crowd, cheered aloud
at his house after the Penn State win!
But there wasn't always good news
We wrote about tough topics too
Grieving with the community over lost friends
Is something we also had to do.
Oh! What a semester of news
national attention of all sorts
From lawsuits to protests
to celebrating our sports.
We were off to Pasadena
what a spectacular day
The Michigan family grew closer to glory
As the seconds ticked away.
For Woodson, there was Heisman
For the fans vindication
Greise was named MVP
And the team No. I in the nation
Oh, the places we went! It's hard to believe we are done!
There were ups and downs, but we had a whole lot of fun.
Now, onto our successors
Good Luck to you
We know you'll succeed
In all that you do!
