Bebe - and Michigan coach Sue Guevara better watch out. Ann Lemire - nicknamed Be after the cartoon featuring a bunch o whinny brats - loves to have a good time. And if the fun is at her coach's expense, all the better. "Every year on Halloween, therc-are pumpkins all over my frottt law n;' Guevara said. "Ann's ttot the only otte, but I know she's a culprit." Lemire, the self-proclaimed ring- leader of the pumpkin campaign's ad other practical jokes - many of whicr involve the team's freshman class - considers her pranks important for building team unity. "I like to get involved with my team- mates and freshmen initiation,' said the Fairgrove, Mich. native. One of the team's best 3-point shooters, Lemire is also a great penetrator, rou- tinely taking on opponents one-on-one. "She can penetrate - she's one of the best one-on-one players on the teat," Guevara said. "She's a good rebounder and she has great hops." The biggest hole in Lemire's game, her defense. She is extremely qui and is second on the team in steals with 33, but Guevara sees even more poten- tial. "She has to be more aggressive defensively," Guevara said. "She has good quickness, and has to use it more on defense." Lemire has set a concrete goal for herself this season - to be one ofthe team's leading scorers. The junior guard had 13 points and four rebounds in the overtime win for the Wolverines. Known as a prankster off the court, Lemire doesn't mind playing a few tricks on the court, as she frustrates opponents with 11.8 points per game and a 46 percent 3-point shooting record. Keady has no problems adjusting after 18 years By James Goldstein Daily Sports 'Nriter In the preseason, Purdue coach Gene Keady and the Boilermakers were the odds-on favorites to win their third Big Ten title in four years - the Big Ten regular season title, that is. There's another championship to yearn for this year - the Big Ten Championship, a four-day tournament involving all 11 conference teams that takes place March 5-8 at the United Center in Chicago. Purdue, which stands at 5-2 in the conference and in a tie for second place with Michigan, Illinois and Indiana - heads to Crisler Arena tomorrow to play the Wolverines in its only regular season meeting this sea- son. Once again, "regular season" should be emphasized here because the two teams could square off in the Big Ten tournament. In his 18th year of coaching at Purdue, Keady said the inception I of the conference tournament does y.change his think- ig as a teacher. k.. "We've been talking about it differently and thought about it in a little different Keady manner," Keady said. "And I think there's more talk about being better in March and not necessarily just win- ning the next game."
