Arkansas state troopers in this case,
could not be ordered to give deposi-
tions under oath.
Such an approach, if adopted by the
court, could prove politically damag-
ing for Clinton.
Lawyers for Jones, the former
Arkansas state employee who alleges
that then-Gov. Clinton crudely propo-
sitioned her, want to take testimony
from witnesses who were in the Little
Rock hotel that day in May 1991.
They include state trooper Danny
Ferguson, who is said to have arrived
with Clinton and later escorted the
woman to a room on an upper floor.
They also want to take statements
from other troopers who traveled with
Clinton while he was governor.
Since 1994, Jones' attorneys have
been barred from taking depositions,
gathering hotel records or undertaking
any other "discovery" in the case.
Lawyers for Clinton, claiming a "tem-
porary immunity" for the chief execu-
tive, have argued that no suit against a
president may proceed until he leaves

other issues, (such as) the existence of
quasars' Richstone said.
But other scientists believe that the
findings help to prove that black holes
do exist, and that they are present in
every large galaxy.
"I guess it is more evidence that
something that a lot of people expected
to be there, or hoped would be there,
actually is there," Bernstein said.
The team conducted its research
using a new computer model, created
by Gebhardt, that analyzes observa-
tional data from the Hubble Space
Gebhardt's computer model provides
a picture of a galaxy that allows scien-
tists to measure specific changes in
velocity distribution as it moves closer
to the center of the galaxy. The scientists
then compare that picture to a model of
the galaxy. After comparing the infor-
mation, a black hole can be detected.
"There has to be a massive black
hole there to fit with the model,"
The team plans to use the new tech-
nology and the information gathered to
investigate 50 to 100 galaxies in the
next three years.
"We are going to try to understand
better how the formation of galaxies
and the relationships between post-
galaxies and their black holes,
