A senior, she plans to pursue an MFA in creative writing after graduation. As a back-yg plan, she intends to teach English in Lithuania. Currently, she is an ESL tutor with the Washtenaw Literacy program. The writer says: "In 1846, after the murder and dismemberment of several city offi- cials from -Jackson, Mich., Fritz Garner Swanson began transporting his original model for what would later become the steam powered telephone to what is pre- sent day Ann Arbor. Subsisting only on rare books and rodents, the Young Swanson passed his time in hiding perfecting the machine until it was lost in the Great Fire of '09. He believes that writing functions as a tool of survival and that he reduces his own level of insanity with every line that he inscribes. An LSA sophomore majoring in philosophy and women's studies, Neela doesn't plan a career in English or writing, but she hopes to continue writing. She reads fiction more than poetry; her major influences In fiction are Jeanette Winterson and Margaret Atwood. Beth Ziobro is a senior majoring in English with a subconcentration in cre- ative writing. After graduation she plans to search for a landscape without any big buildings or deadlines or wasted words.
