Following the Michigan men's gym- nastics loss to Illinois on Sunet 220.575-216.00, a more appropriate nickname for Haro may be "Sweet and Low." "Sweet" because Haro led the Wolverines in six out of seven of the meet's events. "Low" because, well ... it rhymes. Haro won the parallel bars with a score of 9.80, placed second in the floor exercise (9.55), and third in pommel horse, still rings and the around competition. Despite Haro's impressive overall performance, Michigan coach Kirt Golder felt he can still do better. "LaLo was a little fatigued today" Golder said. "(He) didn't have his hest meet but did manage to win the paral- lel bars with a personal best." Haro got some help from junior Tim DeGraw, who led the Wolverines in the vault with a score of 9.40, good enou for a third-place finish. He also m- ished third in the parallel bars with a 9.45. Golder may not have been pleased with Michigan's loss to the Fighting Illini, but he feels the Wolverines are making strides toward achieving their long-term goals. "As a team, we improved eight points from our last meet, which is ver significant" Golder said. "Our4 was to improve 10 points from last year's Big Ten championship to this year's. With today's meet, we have improved six points over last year's Big Ten championship's score." Co-captain Flavio Martins, whose first name incidentally also rhymes with "low;" managed to place fifth in the pommel horse and sixth in high bar despite a recent bout with the flu. Once Martins and Haro bece healthy, Golder hopes the Wolvers can reach the level of teams lile Illinois. "The thing I'm most disappointed in about today's performance is that por hit percentage is too low (55.8 pe- cent)," Golder said. "With an increase, we can shoot for 220 points next week' Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society and The Academic Women's Caucus announce a joint meeting on The New Research Environment: Planning for Change By Vice President for Research Frederick C.
