Sophomore. ~ ACTIVITY: Bare-knuckle soccer. MAJOR: Industrial Engineering. PERCENT OF EFFORT HE GIVES IN EVERY GAME: 110 Three adjectives describe the way Joe Hudkins molives on the soccer field: Feline. Ferocious. Mean. "I'm a lion out there," says Hudkins, outside midfielder from Flushing, Michigan. "Free. Energized. I want to control the whole jungle." Roaring onto the muddy soil with speed a cheetah might envy, the 19 year-old sophomore knows it's not whether you win or lose that counts (though that doesn't stop him from devouring the competition.) Versatility is the essence of his style: Hudkins knows when to dribble the ball with finesse, and when to slash across the turf with single-pointed determination. Maybe it's those same animal instincts that cause him to tear his shoes off after every game and stride off the field bare-foot. Who knows? It's a jungle out there. Tnya Scott 20. Junrior. ACTIVITY: Co-Captain of/the dance team. MAJOR: Engi1neering. MANTRA: "If' I call do it in my mind, ten I know I Can do it. When you 'get down to it, dance is all about eng ineering: it's about plotting the arc of" a flying buttress. P'lanning the arch itec- e turally sound pirouette. The science of bodies in motion, elevat- ed to an art form. Maybe that's why Tonya Scott, a 20-year-old engineering major from Livonia, Michigan, has such a strong sense of what makes choreography work. She believes that in dance there are no stars. "You can't have three great players who lead the sqluadl to vic- tory," says the junior. "Everyone has to perform in unison. If' you stand out, it ruins everything." Forget all the stereotypes about the parima donna ballerina: when it comes to dance, Scott's style is downri ht--well. sport- ing. CAMPUS CORRE~SPONDE:NT' RICK KR It NI .5uolwoula/. Andrew Puduck.
