MSA Continued from Page 1A fraud, Schor said he is not sure that Stefanic sent the message. Stefanic said he could not comment on the e-mail message for legal reasons. but claimed he is not a member of the- Wolverine Party. "I feel that I am a victim in a political1 grudge match," Stefanic said. As the election nears, the political implications of the incident are unclear While Schor said the Wolverine Party will not consider contesting the charges and fines until after this week's elec tion, other candidates are speculating on whetherthe violations will affect the election's outcome. Independent presidential candidate Geoff Tudisco said the allegations en danger the Wolverine Party's status as a middle-of-the-road coalition party. "A lot of people look at them as a good alternative to the other parties," Tudisco said. "I think that's an unfortu- nate event if the allegations are true. Several weeks ago, members of the Michigan and Students' parties accused the Wolverine Party of trying to dis- qualify its competition, after Michigan and Students' party LSA-Student Gov- ernment candidates were questioned about their adherence to election guidelines. "They are continuously tainting them- selves - first it's the LSA-SG thing, and now it's this," said Jonathan Freeman, Students' Party presidential candidate. PROGRAMS Continued from Page IA really able to get that much out of it." Weisskopfsaid the RC will experience changes in the near feature. He would not comment on specific changes, but said there will be a new program connecting RC students to the community. "The basic purpose of the changes is to increase the sense ofcommunity at the RC and increase the contact between students and faculty," Weisskopf said. TheCommunity InitiativeProgram will provide grants to RC students who orga- nize an activity or event "that links RC students to a community outside the Uni- versity." He added there also will be an increase in out-of-the-classroom activities in East Quad, the RC's location. About half the residence hall houses RC students. The co-curricular activities will in- clude discussions, debates and presenta- tions. "This will be linking intellectual and social activities," Weisskopf said. UROP The Undergraduate Research Oppor- tunities Program is the newest addition to the University's living-learning com- munities. Originally formed as a learn- ing community outside the residential environment, UROP will begin a pilot live-in program this fall. Forty-eight UROP students and two RAs will live on a co-ed hall on the third floor of the Lloyd-Winchell House of West Quad. "In some ways, we will be a guinea pig to try some new things," said Sandra Gregerman, the program's director. Gregerman said that living with other UROP students will enrich students' participation in the program. "I think there will be more opportuni- ties for them to discuss their research with each other," she said. The program, which creates research partnerships between about 700 first- and second-year undergraduates and 400 fac- ulty members, recently earned a national award for undergraduate teaching. The program received the Theodore M. Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence last month, which acknowledges inno- vative faculty development programs that enhance undergraduate teaching. The program has expanded greatly since it began in 1989 with only 14 students. Gregerman said that making UROPa living-learning program will give par- ticipants a chance to have more faculty interaction. Some areas of the floor may also be reserved for studying and collaboration among research partners. 21st Century Program LSA first-year student Bryan Rubin couldn't be happier about joining the 21st Century Program. "I like it mainly because you are in the same classes as the people you are living by," Rubin said. "It is a great program." In the fall, the program will double to accomodate about 600 students. The par- ticipants, who live together in Mary Markley, will occupy about halfthe dorm. "Thernore people that can get into it the better," Rubin said. He said the English composition course he took with other 21st Century students was one ofhis favorite classes. The living-learning community, de- signed to help in the transition from high school to college, also provides "subject mastery workshops." "The workshops help ifyou want that kind ofhelp," Rubin said."It reinforces what you've learned." Schoem said he is excited about the FREE FINANCIAL AID!
