The group's secretary, LSA sopho- more Nicholas Kirk, said students are not terribly concerned with the primaries. "Students on campus are worried more about the presidential election than a small primary that essentially has no meaning," Kirk said. LSA sophomore Joshua Bostwick agreed. "A lot ofpeople say they will just vote for the nominee in November," Bostwick, the group's treasurer, said. Jerkatis said the Republican group hopes to raise awareness on campus this week by putting up fliers in the area and hosting a series of events for 'Re- publican Week,' which starts today. There will be a roundi-table discussion at 6:30 p.m., in addition to a Thursday speech by Scott Sherman, deputy cam- paign director for Romney for Senate, and a Friday speech by Joe Fitzsimmons, who is running for the U.S. House of Representatives' seat currently held by Democrat Lynn Rivers. Knott said voter interest could in- crease when Dole picks a running mate for his presidential ticket. Chuck Yob, a member of the Repub- lican National Committee, said voters would go to the polls in huge numbers if Engler gets the vice presidential nod. "A Dole/Engler ticket would take Michigan in a storm," Yob said. The candidates continued to stump in the Midwest last night. In a visit to Grand Rapids yesterday, Dole pledged a simpler tax system, the demise of several federal agencies and an America that resembles "what John Engler's done for Michigan."
