Who: Brian Griese Sport: Football
Eligibility: Sophomore Year: Junior
Hometown: Miami, Fla. High school: Columbus
Why: Griese was instrumental in the SHARE reading program this week. He
scheduled and transported his teammates to Pittsfield Elementary School on Feb
1 and Feb. 2 where he read to a fourth grade class. Griese is on the M-PACT
- Community Service committee that originally proposed the S.H.A.R.E program
Background: Started for nine of 13 games this season at quarterback for the
Michigan football team ... named ABC's Chrevolet "Player of the Game" vs.
Minnesota, becoming the sixth Wolverine to pass for four touchdowns in a game ...
Griese enrolled in the College of LSA majoring in philosophy ... born March 18, 1975.

Who: Akisha Franklin Sport: Women's basketball
Eligibility: Sophomore Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Elmhurst, Ill. High school: York
Why: Franklin topped the Wolverines in scoring in this weekend's games with a
total of 34 points. In yesterday's 84-73 loss to Illinois, Franklin scored a career-
high 20 points and added five assists, four steals and six rebounds.In Michigan's
83-58 loss to Purdue Friday, Franklin led the Wolverines with 14 points and
contributed three assists and two steals.
Background: SportsChannel Chicago's Freshman of the Year for 1994-95 ..
Michigan Most Improved Player award ... competed in U.S. Olympic Festival trials
USA Today Honarable Mention Player of the Year for Illinois for 1993-94 .
