Meanwhile, two American soldiers were wounded in a mine accident in northeastern Bosnia, bringing the toll of American wounded in the NATO - operation to three. The soldiers of the mostly Muslim Bosnian army had driven into a demilita- rized zone outside the southern city of Mostar on Wednesday evening when Spanish troops spotted them and ordered them to leave, NATO officials said. When they refused to leave the zone, _ the Spaniards called in two U.S. A-10 "tank buster" warplanes, which buzzed the Muslim troops. After an hour, a NATO spokesperson said, the Bosnian soldiers handed over their weapons to NATO forces. A French NATO spokesperson said the arms cache was enough to equip a battalion, or about 300 soldiers. The 30 Bosnians' weapons included 300 rifles, six mortars, eight antitank rocket launchers and a substantial number of rifle-launched and hand grenades, NATO said. Underthe Dayton accord,a 2.5-mile- wide zone has separated the warring parties all along Bosnia's 600-mile front line since Jan. 19. Any armed soldier straying into the area risks being dis- armed by NATO troops. Lt. Col. Richard Pernod, a NATO spokesperson, said the Muslims' weap- ons would be destroyed. He added that the Mostar incident was the first use of NATO air power for close air support since the peace agreement was signed Dec. 14. "Sometimes a show of force is a good idea and it saves you having to use force," said Lt. Col. Mark Rayner, an- other NATO spokesperson. Near the northeastern city of Tuzla, NATO said, two U.S. Army engineers were wounded yesterday when one stepped on a mine and the other was injured by shrapnel spraying from the mine. The soldiers were conducting a joint' inspection of a minefield with the Bosnian Serb army when the accident occurred yesterday afternoon in H-adizici, 10 miles southeast of Tuzla. Excavation to begin today on Bosnian mass graves SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) - A U.N. investigator surveyed body parts-some with flesh and cloth- ing still on them - in a muddy field where thousands of people may be bur- ied, and prepared yesterday to super- vise the excavation of another mass grave. The dig - which would be the first one supervised by the United Nations - could stir desire for revenge and complicate moves toward reconcilia- tion after nearly four years of war. And it could prove politically prob lematic as investigators provide more ghastly evidence for an international war crimes tribunal. But unearthing corpses could also answer the burning questions of rela- tives over the fates of tens of thousands of people missing in Bosnia's war. Investigator Manfred Nowak visited a ghoulish field near the town of Glogova ineastern Bosnia, where Mus- lim authorities fear thousands of miss- ing residents of Srebrenica, an enclave overrun by Serb rebels last July, maybe buried. Bones protruded from the snow and mud. One human leg still wore what appeared to be pajamas. A few boots and scraps of clothing lay nearby. Nowak, snapping occasional pho- tographs, said it was imperative to begin excavation as soon as weather permits. He said he had received assurances from the new Serb mayor of Srebrenica "that I would have full access to all alleod siteso f mass raves. or other FEMALE INCEST SURVIVORS, 18 or older, needed for doctoral study.Must be in individual and/or group therapy. 2 questionnaires, take about 1 hr.
