months and about 40 witnesses Wgo
testimony, prosecutors have yetpo

dence positively linking O.J.Simp n
to murder.
Their opportunity is coming tIpn
what is being called the make-r-
break phase of the case.
Prosecutors have pointed to glows
and a hat, blood spots and shoe prints
- all, so far, unconnected to anyon.
"At this point, if the jury was asked
to deliberate, they would have tG28c-
quit because there hasn't been a sile
piece of physical evidence linkig
Simpson to the crime," said UCtf
law Prof. Peter Arenella. "But thas
notacriticism. Theprosecutors have't
gotten to the heart of their case yet'.
Now, with the focus shifting o
blood evidence, legal experts say thg
prosecution will have its chance to
win or lose.
"They now have to go to hard si-
entific evidence," said Loyola Unive-
sity Prof. Laurie Levenson. "This is
the most important phase of the triaL"

So far, prosecution testimony has
been divided into two phases aimed at

to link Simpson to the murders, then
the case is over."
House guest Brian "Kato" Kaelin
testified that he last saw Simpson at
his estate about 9:35 p.m. Prosecutors
say the killings occurred at 10:15 P.1i.
about two miles away.
They have sketched a scenariQ. in
which Simpson took off in his white
Bronco, killed his ex-wifeandherfriefld
outside her condominium, fled leaving
a trail of blood and returned home ith
time enough to clean up, hide the weapon
and bloody clothes and meet a limo-
sine driver at 10:55 p.m. for a pre
planned drive to the airport.

court battle over the blood evidence
and relatively new techniques of DNA
analysis.
Clark said in her opening state-
ment she would prove that Simpson
left his blood as a calling cardc in
places where it should not have been.
