SPRING

BREAK

Spring Break means different things to different people. For some, Spring Break means sandy beaches and the warm sun of Cancun.
For others, it means fresh powder on the ski slopes of Aspen, and of course, catching up on the daily soaps that we missed throughout
the semester. But before you go to fake-bake to build your base tan, or tighten your bindings, be sure to check out all of the great athlet-
ic activities The University of Michigan has to offer.
Your responses to NIKE 101, Assignment #2 were overwhelming. I hardly had enough time to read all of your sob stories. So, like any
good teacher would do, I am giving you another assignment. NIKE 101, Assignment #3 tell me the craziest adventure you've ever had
in a pair of NIKE shoes. The winner will receive two tickets to the Michigan vs. Illinois men's basketball game. Send your letters to me
at the address below and your may win two tickets to the February 26 game.

I will talk to you again next month in the NIKE Sports Page, until then, have a fun and safe Spring Break.

its warm.

1972 A young man, Phil Knight, and

dle-distance runners, are seen in abun-

U.S. track and field training club for
Olympic contenders. NIKE shoes begin
selling in Asia.
1978 John McEnroe signs his first NIKE
endorsement contract. Henry Rono of

*

I was sitting in class last week when I noticed the student next to me was taking notes
with a NIKE pen. Being inquisitive, I asked her where she obtained her pen. "That cool
NIKE truck," she replied. I immediately knew what she was referring to, as there is
only one cool NIKE truck, the NIKE Hummer. The Hummer is NIKE's way to keep in
touch with the American public, whether it's at a University of Michigan Football game
or at a pee-wee baseball game.
For those of you who missed the Hummer's appearance in October don't worry. The
Hummer S.W.A.T. Team will invade the streets of Ann Arbor in mid-March to highlight
NIKE's ties to the University of Michigan Campus.
So if you see a black military vehicle in your rear view mirror, don't be afraid, it may be
the NIKE Hummer!
