person Walt Harrison (Geraldo
Rivera) won't comment. Reporters
James Cho (B.D. Wong) and Hope
Calati (Shelley Duvall) cannot cough
up any details at the Phlegming Ad-
ministration Building. But ace reporter
James Nash (Paul Reubens of Pee
Wee Herman fame) gets an anony-
mous confirmation of the University's
involvement from his City Hall
source, Strep Throat.
The editors then grapple with
whether to print the information. One
contingent, led by Nate Hurley
(Michael J. Fox), says theDaily should
go ahead, while Karen Sabgir (Sarah
Gilbert) and Mona Qureshi (Danica
McKellar) want to wait on the story.
Karen Talaski (Helen Hunt) wants to
gather a consensus of all the senior
editors.
After a heart-to-heart with confi-
dant Daniel Day-Lewis (as himself),
Editor in ChiefJessie Halladay (Meryl
Streep) decides to run the headline
condemning the University, and the
next day, riots break out all overcam-

pus. Activists from a spate of campus
groups rally, including the Revolu-
tionary Workers League (RWL), the
Association of Socialist Students
(ASS) and the Upper Penninsula
Youth Organization for
Underrepresented Right-wing Stu-
dents (UP-YOURS).
The University Department of
Public Safety unleashes its gestapos,
who club protesters and jettison canis-
ters of tear gas onto the Diag. Thirty-
four students are arrested, 33 of whom
are athletes. Daily photographers Evan
Petrie (Martin Short) and Michelle
Guy (Oprah Winfrey) capture the ac-
tion in a stunning portfolio.
Opinion editors Flint Wainess and
Sam Goodstein (Luke Perry and Ja-
son Priestly, in no particular order)
scour the crowd to find notable
quotables. And Arts Editor Melissa
Rose Bernardo (Kirstie Alley), in cri-
tiquing the protesters' fashion, la-
ments the artificial fibers while Nima
Hodaei (as himself, because no one
could ever really play Nima) shakes
his head in bewilderment.
In fact, every section of the Daily
reports on the riots except news staff,
which decides it is not news and in-
stead plasters the front page with sto-
ries of SACUA committee appoint-
ments. They bury the riot story in the
sports section, where it is covered to
death by columnists Chad A. Safran
(Anthony Michael Hall), Rachel
Bachman (Laura Dern), Jaeson
Rosenfeld (Kevin Costner) and Tim
Rardin (Woody Harrelson). Rob Lowe
makes a cameo appearance as Brett
Forrest, who is busy in New York
filming videotapes for Sports Illus-
trated.
Rick Schroeder of "SilverSpoons"
fame puts in a sterling performance as
calendar editor Andrew Taylor, who
courageously maintains his post pro-
cessing submissions throughout the
siege. And turning in cameos are vet-
eran Daily staffers Josh Dubow (Sean
Connery), Andrew Levy (Kiefer
Sutherland), Melissa Peerless (Jenni-
fer Grey) and David Rheingold (Ja-
son Alexander).
