Health Issues and Answers These questions were taken from the Computer Health Information Program on MTS.
UM-CHIP is an anonymous server available from UUnet. At the Which Host' prompt, type: UM-CHIP.
(Q.) How long does it take before no traces of marijuana can be detected in a person's system through urine
testing? Does it take more time to clear cocaine from the system than marijuana?
(A.) It takes approximately 6 weeks for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana to be cleared from the system so that it
can not be detected through a urine test. We cannot provide a specific time period because there are so many potential
confounding factors which can influence the time period of metabolism as well as the positive or negative status of the
result. It is difficult to state which takes longer to clear from the system, marijuana or cocaine, because it depends on
many variables such as purity, other drug use, dosage, etc. In addition, some tests also screen for metabolites of the
drug. Therefore even if the cocaine had cleared the system, the metabolites could still be traced.
(Q.) Can you explain the benefits of walking as compared to running? How much do you need to do?
(A.) Since walking does not create the impact of jogging, most people can do it without fear of injury. Walking programs
also have a lower participant drop-out rate than running programs. Brisk walking(3.5 - 5.5mph), also known as aerobic
walking, uses almost as many calories as running an 8.5 minute mile. A walking pace that keeps your pulse rate
elevated for 15-60 minutes burns approximately 120-160 calories/mile. For good cardiovascular exercise, a person
should walk every other day, briskly for at least 30 minutes. ,,a. ,,mes, An .n
