indefinitely with a stress fracture.
Terri Korbata (6-5, 1.61), who
Michigan coach Carol Hutchins calls,
"One of the best pitchers in the re-
gion," suffered a muscle pull in her
leg and is questionable.
This presents another problem for
coach Miller, especially when the
pitching staff is still trying to find its
groove.
"Our starting pitching has been up
and down and we're looking for some
consistency," she said. "With all of
these injuries, it just means that we
might have to go with a freshman
pitcher."
Freshman Joy Battersby (7-4,
2.27), who just completed a6-1 vic-
tory over Mercer II on March 26,
will likely fill in if Korbata isn't
healthy. Miller could also start walk-

on Trish Sorenson (1-0,1.00), who
has only appeared in two games this
season.
For the Wolverines, today's
matchup represents the last chance to
prepare for the Big Ten season, which
starts Friday at home against Ohio
State.
Michigan is looking to jack up its
offensive firepower, which has been
somewhat lacking of late. The Wol-
verines have been hovering around
.220 as a team and have hit zero home
runs.
"They are struggling offensively,"
Miller said. "But (Hutchins) has a
young team and they are going to get
better."
After playing six games this past
weekend out in California, Hutchins
hopes her team isn't still feeling the
effects of the long trip.
"Wejust need to be ready to play,"
Hutchins said. "Our team needs to be
rested."

Indiana, Michigan pitcher Ron Hollis
was named Big Ten pitcher of the
week.
The last Wolverine pitcher to win
the award was Ray Ricken last year,
for his performance the weekend of
April 10-12.
NATION's BEST?: Leftfielder Scott
Weaver, who is hitting .355 through
16 games, has been nominated as a
candidate for the Smith Award. The
award is given to the top collegiate
baseball-player of the year. This year,
for the first time, college baseball
fans get 1/3 of the vote.
Weaver leads the team in batting
average, doubles, triples, RBI and
slugging percentage. He also picked
upthegame-winning hitinyesterday's
victory when he drove in two runs
with a single in the bottom of the

sixth.
PERFECTION: The Wolverines have
not had much trouble with Siena
Heights over the years. With
yesterday's win, Michigan raised its
all-time series record with tlhe Saints
to 19-0. Freehan's record against Siena
Heights improved to 9-0.
ON FIRE: Michigan's offense has
not been a problem so far this season.
Six players are hitting over .300 and
the team is hitting .267. The Wolver-
ines are also averaging 4.9 runs per
game.
Weaver leads the way at .355 with
Andy Wade (.350) and Scott Niemiec
(.341) close behind. Brian Simmons
(.329), Coston (.319) and Ryan Van
Oeveren (.318) close out the .300
hitters.
However, the defense has hurt the
Wolverines. Although Michigan's
pitching staff has given up 113 runs in
19 games (5.9 per game), only 89(4.7
per game) have been earned.
STARTING IN STYLE: Van Oeveren,
a junior, made his first career home
run count. In the Wolverines' second
game at Indiana, he hit a grand slam to
help lead Michigan to a 13-3 win.
