In 1987, Wisconsin defeated Michigan State in the Great Lakes
Invitational Final. Since that time, Michigan has not lost in the
tournament, with last week's victory over the Spartans marking
the sixth straight GLI title.
Will Kowalchyk is the final Griddes! champion, taking 18 of the
20 bowl games. Kowalchyk missed only the Independence Bowl
and the Gator Bowl but also came within three points on the
tiebreaker. Congrats to Will and thanks to everyone who
participated in Griddes! this year.

WHY: At the 1994 Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa, Wheatley rushed for 124 yards on 18 attempts and
scored two touchdowns to lead the Wolverines to a 42-7 rout of North Carolina State.
BACKGROUND: Wheatley has 39 career touchdowns and 36 on the ground. His rushing total eclipses that
of former quarterback Rick Leach, who had 35.
