Well, if stamp collecting isn't your thing, baseball cards don't appeal to you, or jogging is too strenuous for you, we at the Daily just might have a solution for you. Or at least 20 years ago we would have. Mushroom hunting! (Okay, so it isn't coin collecting, but at least it's unique.) This ad boasts "The Mushroom fHunter's Field Guide," the "best-known guide to edible (and non-edible) mushrooms, designed for use in the field." This book is a staple in any personal library, you know. And it is the "best-known" book of its type. Well thank goodness for this book, because there are all those other inferior mushroom hunting guides. This is also the "revised and enlarged" edition, so you can see more clearly the 290 lovely photographs of various fungi. This is also good for beginners, so don't be afraid. to dive right into mushroom hunting. "The descriptions are tinged with humor and wisdom, making the use of this guide a pleasant and rewarding experience." How do you find humor and wisdom in mushroom hunting? "Oh look - that mushroom looks like Bill Clinton! Hee Heel" Or better yet, "The philosophical ramifications of this particular mushroom are reminiscent of Aristotle's theories of friendship." Maybe we're just out of touch with the potential of fungi, but mushrooms have never prompted us to make such proclamations. But this is a versatile book, which will appeal not only to mushroom hunters, but also to nature lovers, photographers and those who just love to eat mushrooms. And let's not forget the hallucinogenic purposes of mushrooms. Whee! Fun for all! We called Borders, and they still carry this book. In fact, they had four copies on order. "So there are still people out there doing this," a clerk marveled. So if there are any mushroom hunters out there, write to us. We'd love to hear from you.
