Ryan express grinds to halt after injury in right elbow ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Nolan Ryan's glorious career ended abruptly Wednesday night in Seattle, when a ligament in his right elbow "popped like a rubber band." Ryan met with Rangers team or- thopedist Dr. John Conway in Arling- ton Thursday, but his elbow was so sore and swollen that Conway de- cided to examine him Tuesday. Conway said discussions with Ryan and Seattle team physician Dr. Larry Pedegana indicated Ryan has "a history and exam compatible with a torn ulnar collateral ligament" and confirmed that Ryan won't pitch again. Age finally caught up to the 46- year old Ryan and his body broke down. He missed 22 days after sur- gery on the left knee, 72 days because of a strained hip muscle and 21 days because of a strained ribcage muscle. "The whole year's been frustrat- ing," he said after Texas lost to the Mariners 7-4 Wednesday night. "It's been a real struggle all year physi- cally." 0 II LAW SCHOOL?
