"We're in a comfortable position," Phillies catcher Darren Daulton said, "but I wouldn't say it's comfortable." Following Sunday's3-1 victoryover the Oakland Athletics, the White Sox have the largest lead in the majors, 41/ 2 games over the Texas Rangers in the AL West. "If you can't get emotionally high for every game, you're in trouble," WhiteSox manager Gene Lamont said. "Our guysuknow what theseo games mean. Iley know what they have to do." Toronto, on a season-high, eight- game winning streak, has a four-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East. "I've always felt great about this team, but we never really got things together until lately," manager Cito Gaston said. "Right now, we're getting good pitching and we'rehitting the ball. It looks good for us." Atlanta maintained its three-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West with Sunday night's 1- rout of the New York Mets. "I'm keeping the warmer clothes back here because I plan to be in Montreal well into October," Fletcher said. "If there's any positive from this," Daulton said, "it's that these games showed everyone in here what the at- mosphere is going to be like.
