Best Music Store:Tower Records Showtunes, popmodem, you name it, Tower has it. It also has that nifty computer to help you find your tunes. Best Used Records: Wazoo This is the place to go for used records.'The store is a little hole in the wall that has the best deals in town. Best Men's Clothing: Bivouac While the prices may not be in your range, if the preppy Patagonia outdoors look is for you, Bivouac is your temple. Bivouac features those brightly colored pullovers and snazzy hiking boots that everybody's wearing around campus. Best Women's Clothing: Urban Outfitters Alternative, alternative, alternative. Plaids, overalls, backwards baseball hats, and a pretty good selection of plain old solid silk blouses. Best Used Clothing: Urban Outfitters if you can get over the idea that someone else wore those tank tops and leotard, then you're getting agreatdeal. Just don't think about it too long. Best Books: Borders Need we say more? Well, we will. Borders has always been an Ann Arbor institution, but now with their expanded second floor with a special section for fiction and a nifty escalator (which no- body uses, but it's there), nobody can even come close. Coming soon ... Bor- ders II: the Jacobson Years. Best Textbooks: Ulrich's Even though all the bookstores on campus (except for the one in the Union) are owned by the same company, Ulrich's is in a class of its own in terms of their wide array of texts. Best First-Run Theater: Showcase Sure, it looks like an airport termi- nal, but no other theater has as wide an array of films. Occasionally you'll find that rare independent gem, like "Zebrahead" and "Enchanted April," among the mainstream muck. Best Video Store: Video Watch This Blockbuster's wannabe has a great selection of films from every genre and time period. But for the real class act, try Liberty Street Video. The only place in town you can get everything from "The Killing" to "Nosferatu." Best Liquor / Party Store: Village Corner Known affectionately as "V. C." (no, that doesn't mean Viet Cong) around town, Village Corner has every- thing from bottles of fine wine to party kegs (and snacks to go with them). Best Photocopying: Kinko's Not only can this place run off 20 copies of your short story for creative writing class while you wait, but also they format your resume on colored paper and sell you a coursepack. Best Sporting Goods: State Street Sports A colleague of ours had a spiritual experience with apair of shoes he bought here. He still talks about it. Best Groceries: Meijer No one beats Meijer for sheer vari- ety and low prices. And you can pick up a cheesy "Aladdin" action figure or a purple ice tray while you're waiting in those long lines to pay. Best Magazines: Community Newscenter The Newscenter features a wide ar- ray of obscure magazines, from "Hot 'n' Nasty" to "Better Homes and Gar- dens" plus a large selection of foreign publications. And the only place on campus that carries TheaterWeek! Best Michigan Items: Moe's One of the few (yeah, right) stores devoted to the worship of Maize and Blue, where else can you go to decorate your house, body and car with Michi- gan paraphernalia? The triple-bill musical "The Apple Tree" is in reality fast-paced and quite humorous. But SophShow's faulty di- recting and performing made it drawn- out and dull. A bad apple filled with worms. NOTE: Keep an eye out for "Brigadoon," which opens tonight. Word on the streets is that the Musical Theater department will dazzle with their rendition of this traditional ro- mantic fantasy. Best Show that none of us under- stood: "The Birthday Party" Director Vladimir Mirzoev took Harold Pinter's absurdist drama to new levels. If we knew how to explain those levels, we wouldn't have this category. Best Use of Flesh: "Andromache" Well, there was alotof it.It was, um, tastefully revealed. Some interesting views of Chris Stapleton. Best of Basement Arts: "Lip: As th on the fl gave ariN McNal] heartwr Tammy comic r melanch Best CeCe G Stap U ii "Our Town" has to be one of the best productions to hit the stage this year. ._ . _ FAST, FREE DELIVE TO U OF M AND SURROUNDING AF Io _ PIZZA CHOICE OF CRUSTS:6 3W 33 I -ORIGINAL CDLI I-WHOLE WHEAT 0 GUMBY'S LOVES TO GO TO P1 U -ASK ABOUT OUR PARTY SPECI T-SHIRT PRINTERY SAl's MULTI-COLOR PRINTING CHAMPS! o STAFF ARTIST SUPPORT.
