Located just past North Campus on Dixboro Road, the gardens include a conservatory which houses approximately 2,000 different plant species and 4.2 miles of trails. Exploring the Tropical House of the conservatory, alumni John and Kathie Gourlay, examine a tree which holds rainwater in its leaves (top). Peering into a larger ivater receptacle, eight-year-old Jacinda Gant (bottom left) finds plants, as well as her own reflection staring back at her. In the Warm Temperate House there are plants from the subtropical, warm temperate and Mediterranean climates (center and middle right). Also in this room, three-year-old Renee Lalinsky (bottom right) claps her hands at the gigantic goldfish swimming in the pool. The Arid House contains various succulent plants including a variety of unusually shaped cacti (middle left). The Botanical Gardens is a unique resource for students and the Ann Arbor community. 0 by Sharon Musher 0 0x 0 4
