But over the holidays, the second-ranked Wolverines proved just how deep they are. Junior goaltender Chris Gordon, who played in only three games previ- ous to last weekend's series, finally got his chance to play against Alberta. Gordon made the most of his opportunity, blanking the Golden Bears in three of the four periods he played. "Gordon probably had his best showing thus far. He had some good saves," Berenson said. "He's been really focused since break." "It was nice to play a full game. It's hard to stay in it when you're not playing all the time," Gordon said after starting Sunday's game. "I turned my attitude around after break. Fortunately, things went well for me tonight." Another player who made his presence felt over the break was sopho- more center Ron Sacka. After seeing limited action in his freshman year, Sacka has tallied three points in his last three games - one more than he had all of last season. He scored one of Michigan's eight goals in the Wolverines' victory over Northern Michigan in the Great Lakes Invitational final, notched an assist in the first game of the Alberta series and scored Michigan's second goal in Sunday's 2-2 contest. "(Sacka's) showing that he can play at this level," Berenson said. "He hadn't done that last year and earlier this year. He's showing something that can help us in the future." Two freshmen also showed some offensive prowess over the holidays. Defenseman Steven Halko scored his first collegiate goal against Northern Michigan en route to being named to the GLI all-tournament team, and right wing John Arnold came up with his first goal as a Wolverine in Michigan's 7-1 victory over Alberta Saturday. 11 Wolverine David Roberts in action earlier this season against Kent State. Roberts need seven assists to become Michigan's all-time assist leader. "I had a lot of energy after that goal," Arnold said. "It's been a long time coming. I knew one of those chances would finally go in." INCHING CLOSER: Senior left wing David Roberts reached the 200- point plateau in the championship game of the GLI to move into sixth place on the Michigan career point leaders list. While Roberts (202 points) has lit- tle chance of catching Denny Felsner (261) as the all-time points leader, he is a virtual lock to surpass Brad Jones' team record of 138 assists. Roberts, who already has 13 assists on the season, needs only seven more to break that record. HOUSE...CLASS...ROOMMATES: Michigan's top two point-producing lines are comprised of classmates and housemates. Since Berenson put se- niors Roberts, Mark Ouimet and Dan Stiver together Nov. 27 against Western Michigan, the threesome has totaled 40 points in just 10 games. Juniors Cam Stewart, Brian Wiseman and David Oliver are right behind, having amassed 39 points in the nine games that they have played together.
