A FEw GOOD MEN Jack Nicholson - a much better actor than Robert
De Niro - and Tom Cruise - a much better-looking actor than Robert De
Niro - appear in this film version of Aaron Sorkin's flop play that was
saved by Katharine Hepburn on Broadway. Rob "no box office bomb"
Reiner's at the helm. But we still think it looks like a dog. At Briarwood:

THE MuPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL Dickens's novel in the mouths of
muppets (oh well, better than in the mouth of Bert Hornback). Michael
0 Caine plays Scrooge (apparently he was offered the Tom Cruise role in "A
Few Good Men," but took this project instead). At Briarwood: 10, 11:45,

Kermit has miraculously recovered from his terminal case of laryngitis.
FILMS HOLDING:
ALADDIN The greatest animated film of all time, well, at least, the funni-
est. Not boring, like "Beauty and the Beast," and even more fun than "The
Little Mermaid." Disney's planning to buy Robin Williams an Oscar
nomination for this one. At Briarwood: 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,

THE BODYGUARD Long before he penned that pretentious dog "Grand
Canyon," University alum Larry Kasdan wrote this script. If his mature
scripts suck, just imagine what this is like. With Whitney Houston, Kevin
Costner and his laughable Harrison Ford haircut. At Briarwood: 10:15,
12:45, 4, 7, 9:35, 12. At Showcase: 11:40, 1, 2:20, 3:50, 5, 7:20, 7:50,

BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA The horror, the horror. Coppola's monstrous
adaptation of Stoker's classic is a dazzling failure. The buckets o' blood are
cool, though. And the music (Annie Lennox has a song) is really good. At

THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN Eddie Murphy hasn't learned his
lesson with the failure of "Boomerang," as evidenced by this, his latest
silly, unfunny attempt at comedy. From Hollywood pictures, the studio that
still hasn't made a good movie. At Ann Arbor 1 & 2: 11:50, 2:10, 4:35,

HOME ALONE 2 The original was the most successful comedy of all time.
Of all time. Yes, Macaulay is cute, but not that cute. At Briarwood: 10,

4:35, 6:30, 7:10, 9:50, 12:15.
MALCOLM X Three hours and twenty minutes of Spike Lee? You'll wish
it was longer. Not only is this movie a cultural phenomenon, it's good
(unlike a certain other overhyped horror movie we could mention).
Deserves lots of Oscar gold. Why aren't more people seeing this movie?
' Oh yeah, they're all across the hail watching Macaulay in "Home Alone
2" At Showcase: 12, 4, 8, 9:10.
OF MICE AND MEN Gary Sinise gives a terrific performance in this truly
moving adaptation of the Steinbeck novel. Too bad John Malkovich is in it.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT Robert Redford hits a home run with his
third directorial effort, the only recent movie (well, other than "Howards
End," "Aladdin," "Malcolm X" and "Husbands and Wives") that deserves
the oft-misused adjective, "great." At Briarwood: 10, 12:15, 2:35, 4:55,

SINGLE WHITE FEMALE A late-summer sort of hit, another one of those
