Despite outstanding individual performances, the team lost both meets. Friday, Tennessee won, 157- 137; North Carolina won Saturday's dual, 167.5-131.5. Michigan's re- cord falls to 2-3. The team competed without its divers at this weekend's duals, as they conditioned for later in the sea- son. This disadvantage left the Wol- verines with a 32-point deficit before either of the competitions be- ganl. The all-American Gehrs, who is from Oak Ridge, Tenn., swam well in her return home Friday. At this meet, held in Knoxville, she won both the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of :58.12, and the 400-yard in- dividual medley, in 4:27.09. Saturday, at Chapel Hill, N.C., Gehrs again won the 100-yard but- terfly, in :58.42, and swam the but- terfly leg of the Wolverines' 400- yard medley relay, which was victo- rious in 3:52.16. Hooiveld, who is from Australia, joined Gehrs in the winning relay, swimming the breaststroke leg. She came in first in the 100- and 200- yard breaststrokes both Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Alecia Humphrey also swam well for the Wolverines this weekend. Humphrey placed first in the 100-yard backstroke at each meet, with times of 57.07 and 56.71, respectively. Saturday, Humphrey won the 200-yard backstroke iin 2:01.39 and also led off the winning 400-yard medley relay. Karen Barnes, also a sophomore, won the 500-yard freestyle on Friday in 5:00.03 and again on Saturday in 5:00.09. Barnes twice finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle behind junior Kirsten Silvester. Silvester was victorious versus both the Volunteers and the Tar Heels, delivering times of 10:13.87 and 10:10.74, respectively. 6 The Toronto Blue Jays selected Bob Bailor with the first pick in the 1976 draft. Bailor played with the Dodgers before going to Toronto. On Nov. 17, Major League Baseball will hold an expansion draft for the Florida Marlins and the Colorado Rockies.
