Pakula's grungy thriller

Mutter time
We're just so sick of all these big stars. Midori, Isaac Stern, Luci Pavarotti and the rest are great and all, but it's
time for some new blood. Fresh interpretations. Exciting performers. One is mezzo Cecilia Bartoli, who will make
her way to Ann Arbor early next year. For now, we'll content ourselves with violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter at
Orchestra Hall in Detroit tonight. This Herbert von Karajan protege is as impressive as Itzhak, without the star
aura, and her stop in Detroit is one of only seven recitals she will give in North America. With Lambert Orkis on
piano, Mutter will perform Ravel's Violin Sonata, Schubert's Fantasie in C and, like Midori last week, Beethoven's
"Kreutzer" sonata in A. Let's hope she gets it right. Tickets range from $17 to $50, but rush tickets are available.
