Page 18-The Michigan Daily/New Student Edition - Thursday, September 10, 1992 SUMMER " Continued from page 11 only because you can't believe how ridiculous the filmmakers were willing to sink in order to set things on fire. Though Aliens3 has some interesting visuals, can anyone be- sides a handful of chemistry majors explain what happens to that alien at the end of the movie? Speaking of the film's ending, did the (nu- merous) screenwriters think no one would notice that the finale was stolen from Terminator 2? Another question. Who exactly is responsible for allowing Housesitter and Universal Soldier to be made? Finally, with Far and Away , Ron Howard has finally found something cheesier and more bland than his portrayal of Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. -4 Maybe the best thing that can be said about this summer is that it's over. But take heart. The tempera- tures are falling, and as Hollywood gears up for Oscar season, there's sure to be a few winners in theaters very soon: look for Woody Allen's Husbands and Wives, a new Ridley Scott with 1492 and an old Ridley Scott with the director's cut of Blade Runner, and a new Ingmar Bergman film, sort of: The Best Intentions. FEST Continued from page 16 of the acts on the bill either played in one of the original Festivals or come from the Ann Arbor/Detroit area, in- cluding the Chisel Bros. If the Festival is going to work, and remain a yearly extravaganza, local support is crucial. From spreading the show from an outdoor park to Crisler Arena and the Michigan Theater to using local firms for sponsorship and supplies, the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival does more than bring great music to our backyard. "There's too much support for this," says Andrews. "I think this Festival is just perfect with every- thing else in Ann Arbor that goes on. "We've chosen a time not to interfere with anybody else. We wanted students back badly because you've got some pretty smart musical students in this town although it isn't geared to attract students per se." Though this Festival is being promulgated as a family event, there will be more than just such units in attendance. Whiteall agrees. "I worked on this MC5 reunion about four months ago and it was a very similar thing," he says. "Back then, we were all eighteen year olds, the audience. But at this reunion, there were all these eighteen year olds and us forty year olds, it was a big mix. I suspect that this (Festival) will have a wide- range of ages." If it works, imagine next year's bill. 0 He's mean, he's lean, and he's in a nouvelle Western schizophrenic, anti-violence, shoot-em-up flick. Oh, Clint. ARTHUR ANDERSEN ARTHUR ANDERSEN & CO., S.C.
