the Big Tet
by Andy Stabile
Daily Sports Writer
Just when the national media
begin to harp on how bad the Big
Ten really is, they go and put
Michigan State on national tele-
vision against Notre Dame. They'll
do anything to prove a point. Even
so, this week's matchups could leave
conference teams a little dinged up
come Sunday.
Ohio State (2-0) at Syracuse (2-0)
Watch out world. By defeating
big, bad Bowling Green last week,
the Bucks silenced those critics who
questioned the Scarlet and Gray's
ability to defeat teams with the word
"Bowling."
Who was the last team to beat the
Buckeyes, you ask? The Orangemen
nipped the Bucks in last season's
Hall of Fame Bowl. Now, Ohio
State's modest little winning streak
will come to an end when Qadry
Ismail finally gets national television
exposure and "the Missle" blasts
through the roof of the Carrier
Dome. Look for him to put up
Heisman-type numbers against the
Bucks.
Colorado (2-0) at Minnesota (1-0)
Last week the Gophers got beat

i again?.
by San Jose State, 39-30. This week
the Gopher faithful (half a dozen
guys too drunk to leave the
Metrodome when the Twins' games
end) get to see a real team.
The Buffaloes put 57 points on
the scoreboard against Baylor. They
could double that total against the
Gophers.
Bowling Green (1-1) at Wisconsin
(0-1)
In the ongoing saga of Mid-
American Conference schools
upsetting Big Ten schools...
Eastern Michigan (0-1) at Penn
State (2-0)
They scheduled this one back
before Central Michigan beat
Michigan State for the second time
(had to get that in here again). The
Penn State athletic department has
spent the last three days feverishly
trying to get this game off its
schedule...
O.K. The truth is, the Nittany
Lions are good. Scary good. Did we
really have to put them on our
schedule next season?
- Lest I forget; Illinois plays
Houston, Northwestern visits
Stanford, Indiana against Kentucky,
and Toledo travels to Purdue.
