After a rain delay that nearly exceeded the length of the first game of their doubleheader with Ferris State, the Wolverines finally came away with with 6-5 and 9-3 victories. "I was glad to get some innings in because we've been playing in the snow and rain," Michigan coach Bill Freehan said.. "We need to play games like this to get some guys in and find out what they can do." ulidogs Before the rains came, Michigan (13-14 overall) took advantage of the rare baseball-type weather. Chris Newton (2-2) worked four innings, allowing only four hits. The Wolverine bats were equally on track, as five different batters collected seven hits. Matt Idoni led the way, capping off the third inning with his second homer of the season, a two-un blast to right field. Michigan added three more runs in the fourth inning, but the weather would slow down the Wolverine of- can't stop Blue fense, as the game was delayed in the middle of the fifth. Two hours later, it was Ferris State (4-12) who lit up the score- board, scoring three runs in the sixth to pull within a single run, 6-5. But Bryan Santo took the mound in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to notch his first save. After falling behind in the sec- ond game, 3-0, Michigan turned things around quickly as Ron Hollis (1-0) came in to pitch in the fourth, shutting down the next eight Bulldog hitters. Likewise, the Wolverine offense exploded for a monstrous six-run fourth inning with five consecutive hits featuring everything except a home run. The Idoni show contin- ued, as the sophomore knocked home two runs in the inning, and a total of three in the game behind two doubles and a single. Michigan would add three more runs before it was over, ending the sweep with 14 hits and a 9-3 victory. The Wolverines will play again today at 3 p.m. in a single game with Detroit Mercy at Fisher Stadium.
