0 Page 10-The Michigan Daily- Friday, April 3, 1992 LINES Continued from page 9 That was not the case yesterday. In two powerplays in the third period, when they could have tied the score at three, the Wolverines couldn't set up their offense and did not even muster a single shot on goal. And credit Wisconsin, it wasn't a tired, scared NMU that Michigan played. The Badgers took the attitude, we'll beat you, you can have your luck." That didn't always work, but it did against Michigan. The Badgers hoad the attitude and this time they had the luck, and now, they have a chance for the national title. The Big Ten season was an up- and-down campaign, the lowest point being a loss to Ohio State which came on the heels of a 96-78 blowout in Madison. But that Ohio State game was also the turning point, say the Wolverines. Since then, the team has won seven in a row and has reached the Final Four. But that is not enough for the Wolverines. They are young, but their goal is no less than to win the National Championship. The Wolverines now can make themselves come out on top. Defense wins championships. If things go awash offensively, Michigan tightens the reigns settles back into its offense. This team has reached a level where if it decides to chalk up an- other 'W', it will. The players chan- nel all the negative comments made about them into a desire to prove they can be the best. No team plays with as much emotion as Michigan. If the Wolverines do not over- look or underestimate Cincinnati, the Bearcats should be merely another stepping stone. And then comes Duke - hope- fully. All the players want the Blue Devils again, and that's just as well. Knight's team is the only one left in America that owes Michigan and has a chance to do something about it. If the Wolverines get Duke Monday night, chalk it up. Michigan has talked all week about how there is only one loss on its ledger it has yet to avenge. The desire to beat ev- ery team they have played this year is enough to drive the Wolverines. It's time for the Blue Devils to turn over their mantle. And don't think for a minute that Michigan will not collect if given the chance. In the Wolverines' minds, Duke has been living on borrowed time. The Blue Devils' grace period will run out Monday night. Payment due - in full. FINAL FOUR At Continued from page 9 up on offense. But so can Michigan, as they have proven all year. The size and versatility of the Wolverine big men, Chris Webber and Juwan Howard; have given teams and coaches fits in the tournament. Rather, tournaments. Plural. Because as the Wolverines will tell you, this is the Minneapolis Invitational - their last two-gan tournament of the year. Everybody in the tank. Andrew M.
