To borrow a phrase, Ohio State
passed Bowling Green like it was
standing still. But give the Falcons
credit for some movement. How else
could you explain them getting from
eighth-place to ninth this weekend?
Bowling Green completed a sea-
son-ending collapse by dropping a
pair to Ferris State, while the
Buckeyes took two from Illinois-
Chicago to overcome the Falcons for
eighth place and earn the right to
face Michigan this weekend in the
first round of the CCHA playoffs. -
In the Buckeyes, the Wolverines
face an opponent they have swept
this season and outscored by a 25-10
count. In the two games at Yost

Arena, where the best-of-three series
will commence Friday, Michigan
beat OSU by identical 9-3 scores.
"We've definitely had some suc-
cess against them and that's some-
thing that will give us confidence
when we step on the ice Friday,"
Michigan captain David Harlock
said.
However, Harlock also noted that
his team will be facing a different
Buckeye team that in weeks past.
Indeed, to make the playoffs, the
Buckeyes won four straight, includ-
ing a sweep of 6th-ranked Lake
Superior State last weekend.
Coming into the weekend,
Bowling Green stood two points
ahead of the Buckeyes and needed at

least a victory and tie to clinch
eighth Instead, the Falcons took a
visit to Choke City, losing 3-2 and 5-
1 to Ferris.
Michigan, winner of its first-ever
CCHA championship, had the week-
end off when its exhibition game
with the Soviet Red Army game was
canceled. The Wolverines ended the
regular season three points ahead of
Lake Superior.
The CCHA playoffs, which run
through March 22, will give
Michigan one last opportunity to
prepare for the NCAAs and attempt
to impress the members of the
NCAA tournament selection com-
mittee.
