Beaudry led the Wolverines with 16 points. TOLEDO Continued from page 1 Trish Andrew getting in early foul trouble and Michelle Hall sit- ting the match out with a foot in- jury didn't help the Wolverines' chances. Neither did the home court advantage. The Rockets broke their attendance record as 4,527 rowdy fans flocked to their home opener. "Our team has worked for four years to get the program to this level where we can draw 4,500 peo- I i ,.,C ple for a game," Fennelly said. "I think the players appreciated that, and they wanted to play." Michigan shot at a weak .364 clip from the field, including .276 in the first half. Nevertheless, the team could find solace in the fact that it played hard until the end of the match. "To be down like they were down, they played for 40 minutes, and I think that's to Bud's credit," Fennelly said. "They played until the horn went off. A lot of teams would've quit, but they didn't. If they can sustain that over the year, they're gonna be a good team." Forward Nikki Beaudry scored a team-high 16 points for the Wol- verines, while guards Dana Drew and Jane Roman paced the Rockets with 15 each. VanDeWege realizes his team has plenty to work on, but perhaps most important of all is the play- ers' confidence level. "If people say to you, 'Take the jumper,' and you don't take it, then 0 you're in trouble," he explained. "They're giving you something that you have to do, and they're taking something else away; you have to take it. It's just kids stepping for- ward and being good shooters. I think we'll just have to find out who's going to step forward and be an aggressor." Michigan will have a chance to redeem itself when it visits Bowl- ing Green tomorrow night. It will be the last of a three-game road swing against teams from the Mid- American Conference. 4 It took Galileo 16 years to master the universe.
