Sandra ( '/''Bernhard, renaissance representative of all that is hip, will play the Power Center tonight. Bernhard may have reached her fame through her sarcastic and cynical appraisals of life in her stand-up comedy, but after branching out into several forums, she proved herself to be both hilarious and sensitive. Her book, Confessions - of a Pretty Lady, takes us from her childhood in Flint to the harsh wilds of L.A., from whence she bases her acerbic identity. Acting credits include her one-woman film, Without You 1I'm Nothing, and a role in Martin " Scorsese's King of Comedy. With this tour, entitled Giving Til It Hurts,Bernhard moves on to song, warbling her way through introspective rock and poetic reminiscences. See the Flint native, the taller, thinner, AlP"'brunetter Madonna, tonight at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the Michigan Union Ticket Office (plus evil service charge). 763-TKTS.________________ - ,l~Y 3!' 4.4 , R b'', S ""WR Wd Heeno Stil glwin fro thir ictry a bet nw bad o th MT vido aard (evn toug thy'verelase R tw abus n heStts) Jsu Jne wl gac or ai te twnwih her iin Bitshprsec Satudaynigt. he fve-embr bnd as ben rovdin muh adesie bainson foder;youve ear 'em thusad tmes yo're otaly ickof hem bu hey le's ustthik aout hatchous ll ay ong 'caue te tnesare tuc onthestyls i th hed caity Yu, "everEnogh~ "Rght ere Riht ow, and hei laestsinle,"Rea, RalRea," re hoc ful ofthik, noiy~~guiarsd aceale rooes ndI pop ttiude Thse pett bos ae sue t brak our ear, o soe pat o yor bdy, ive Jeus one (fro let torigt, JrryDe~og, l Jaorsi, Mke dwars, arryD. nd Gn) rougt to oter4and Stilnglforithefrideio rietr sNe'tmcDstbi nnthe Nvieo wasutomatDfodilsthey'rlae coecativeyupyandtm8spom.ratoillyudiom.themshwyssld-tsutimkaybeyou hangh run lldawih llothg wopatooituernhipepe ons the sutesof Hill, our caret oJoesus.f orboy iv.Jsu oe ''1' it " I i I The University of Michigan SCHOOL OF MUSIC Tue. Continued from page 9 There's one scene where Jackson is at a restaurant with his old friend Baker Moon (played by Afrika Hall, of Jungle Brothers fame), in which a huge neon Coke sign turns over their heads. There's nothing wrong with a major corporation taking interest in supporting the Black film renaissance, but when the bum. It's much better, but that's the subject for a different review - LARGE corporation blatantly capitalizes on, the fact that many from a market it,.; wants to break into will be seeing film, it's disgraceful, undermining the whole message of the film. When I walked out of the the- , ater, I thought, "How could Schultz do that? How could he not only water the whole theme of the, film down to nonexistence,, but wa- ter it down with Coke?" But then I realized that Schultz has been doing this for years; he has always been a part of the system himself and: there's no other way for him to be- have. And that's a shame, because when there are so many Black directors clambering to show the Black point of view, we don't need a Black director showing us the white Epoint of view.
