AIA, who defeated MSU a week earlier, lost to Michigan last Wednesday, 109-102, before 7,229 at the Palace. The victory was the second for the Wolverines in their brief exhibition season. Michigan jumped out to a 17-10 lead on the three-point shooting of guards Demetrius Calip and Tony Tolbert, before falling behind by seven midway through the first half. "We've got a team that can score some points," Michigan coach Steve Fisher said. "The thing that disappointed me was when we were up 17-10, they went on a run to take the lead. We still continued at that same pace of run, two passes, and a shot. When they tied it at nineteen, we should have found a way to get Eric Riley the ball five or six times in a row and we didn't do a very good job of that." The Wolverines retook the lead, 33-32, on a Calip breakaway lay-up. The senior captain had 21 points in the first-half and finished the game leading all scorers with 26, including four of five from beyond the three- point stripe. The lead batted back and forth throughout the rest of the half. But Michigan center Eric Riley came out strong to open the second half and put the Wolverines out in front, 71- 63, before commiting his fourth personal foul. AIA ran out of gas and couldn't come back. It was AIA's third game in as many nights, and Michigan's run-and-gun offense took its toll. "Normally, we don't use that as an excuse, but we were pretty tired tonight," AIA player/coach Lorenzo Romar said. "They're really quick with the three guards, and with the perimeter shooting, you've got to be out on them." The squad will play six Big Ten teams in all, thus far losing to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan. "They (Michigan) are not bad," Romar said. "They got the big guy (Riley) in the middle who was really consistent tonight, and they had the three-point shooters out there." Riley finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Tolbert scored 20, and senior Kirk Taylor added 19. But Taylor's knee, which he injured two years ago, is still bothering him. He had to miss two days of practice last week. "I feel as though I'm playing at about 80 percent," Taylor said. "It's coming along real gradual and I feel that I'll be 100 percent before the season starts." Regular season play begins for the Wolverines this Wednesday against Central Michigan at Crisler Arena. IN STREET CLOTHES: Junior transfer Chip Armer and walk-on Freddie Hunter have yet to see action due to credit problems. Armer is waiting for credit to transfer from West Point. Hunter has to find out what his eligiblity is. Hunter has junior standing academically, but this is his fourth year at Michigan. Some of those semesters he was only a part-time student. The ruling on their status should come today. "I'm thinking (the NCAA) is just going to stamp them and say, 'O.K., go play,"' Fisher said. he money II Save now on select color Macintosh systems. "We'd like to get another player or two, but if we don't, we'll still consider this a very productive recruiting year for us." 0 WELCOME STUDENTS "WE CUT HAIR TO PLEASE." *6 BARBERS - NO WAITING* THE DASCOLA STYLISTS for Men and Women 668-9329 opposite Jacobson's I 1 11 Career Opportunities at Morgan for U'niversity of MIichigan students interested in Operations Management Research Sales Trading Please plan to attend our inform ation presentation on Tuesday ,o'vember 27 :00pm Michigan Union, Kuenzel Room All maiors welcome 0 M 01 i r r s h.. 1ww.. ws iLaw wMww wi CAL .wwi.ww
