Whirlwind dialogue as Grant tries to convince Russell to cover one more story before she marries. **"* * Twentieth Century (Howard Hawks, 1934) MLB4 8:40fTPL CG John Barrymore and Carole Lombard ham it up the first screwball comedy.Barrymore is a Broadway egomaniac who brings Lombard to stardom and drives her away with his lunacy and phony self-pity. " . * * * " It Happened One Night (Frank Capra, 1934) MLB4 10:15ITPL CG First film to win the five major Oscars has Clark Gable as a hard-boiled reporter who hooks up with runaway Claudette Colbert on a bus and, of course, begin a rocky but inevitable love-relationship. Gable created a stir by not wearing an undershirt! You Only Live Twice (Lewis Gilbert, 1967) Lorch 7:00 Japanese Studies/CGfree SPECTRE has stolen a nuclear bomb and only one man can save the world from imminent destruction while sleeping with many women along the way - Bond, James Bond. 0** e * e 0e Polyester (John Waters, 1981) MLB3 7:00/TPL Med The John Waters Festival begins with the first movie filmed in "Odorama" where the audience uses a scratch'n'sniff card to enhance their perceptual experience (watch out for Smell Number 2). Divine is amusing as Francine Fishpaw, a housewife who's dissatisfied with everything in her life. Pink Flamingos (John Waters) MLB3 8:45/TPL Med Water's cult classic is considered one of the most disgusting films ever made. Divine, as Babs Johnson, competes with a married couple to become "the filthiest human being in the world." Selling heroin to children and investing in pornography are among the treats. Good movie for a first date. " "*"** * Hairspray (John Waters, 1988) MLB3 10:30/TPL Med It's hard to believe that the man who made Pink Flamingos also made this nostalgic, PG musical set in the '60s. Main story involves integration in a Baltimore teen dance show, but the main interest, as always, is in Waters' kooky characters. With Debbie Harry and Sonny Bono. S A T U R D A Y ..* * * *" * The Tin Drum (Volker Schlondorff) AudA 7:00 & 9:30 CG Based on a Gunter Grass novel, this is the story of a three-year-old who stops growing physically as the Nazis take power in Germany and the boy beats out his anger on his drum. Extraordinary film. " * * " * * Desperate Living (John Waters, 1977) MLB4 7:00/TPL Med Waters' described this film without Divine as "a lesbian melodrama about revolution...a monsterous fairytale comedy dealing with mental anguish, penis envy, and political corruption. Its target audience is very neurotic adults with the mentalities of eight-year-olds." Need I say more? * * * * * * Multiple Maniacs (John Waters, 1971) MLB4 8:45/TPL Med John Waters' favorite film. Divine runs a "Carnival of Perversions" which she uses to rob and kill unsuspecting suburbanites. Contains a puke-eater and a giant lobster that rapes Divine. *"* * * * * Female Trouble (John Waters, 1975) MLB4 10:30/TPL Med Divine's most outrageous performance ends this festival of Waters' feminist films. Follows the life of Divine's Dawn Davenport from being kicked out of school to her demise in prison. Child abuse and dismemberment are some of the less shocking scenes in this film * * * * * * Roger & Me (Michael Moore, 1989) MLB3 7:30 & 9:30 AAFC Flint man Moore takes on GM's chair Roger Smith in this hilarious documentary about the decline of Flint at the hands of GM. Though manipulative, it's a compelling argument for corporate responsibility. Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976) Hillel 7:30 & 9:30 HSC One of the best films of the Seventies.
