Kathleen Russell stars in this film as
Joanne/China Blue, a fashion
designer moonlighting as a hooker

to). It's another film that inspired
heated controversy upon its release,

(Alfred Hitchcock, 1940)

there should be one of the real thing.
Joel McCrea (Meredith's pop, of

title role as an American reporter in
London caught in the middle of a

some of the famous Hitchcock
scenes.
Our Man in Havana
(Carol Reed, 1960)

novel, this satirical spy spoof stars
Alec Guinness as a vacuum cleaner
salesman who's recruited by the
British Foreign Office to become a
spy, after which they foolishly
become convinced he's a top-notch

and Ernie Kovacs.

(Jane Campion, 1989)

The oddly vague narrative involves
two sisters, one thin and repressed,
the other fat and decadent without
one iota of shame. The characters
are pushed to extremes, but to
brilliant effect -even though you
might not identify-with the
characters themselves, the themes
that emerge from their interactions
will haunt you.

beautiful.

Time to regress here, with one of the
biggest fashion mistakes a decade
ever committed. Tony Manero, here,
with a poster of Sly Stallone on his
wall and the de rigeur no-natural-
fibers-here suit on his bod. It's a
well acted and meaningful movie, but
we all know you really went for the
dancing.

This charming, sometimes bleak
coming-of-age story provides debuts
for a number of actors who've gone on
to considerable fame, including

Twelve Oscars went to this epic set in
Palestine at the time of Christ. Chuck
Heston plays the Jewish prince Judah
Ben-Hur, a little guy who's loudly
opposed to Roman domination. He
loses his home, his family, his
freedom, but never his spunk. The
famous chariot race is visually
impressive and very realistic.

The Mahabharal
(Peter Brook, 1990)

With a title meaning "the greatest
story of all time," it has to be good. A
100,000 stanza Sanskrit poem over
2000 years old, it's the national epic
of India, and the basis of all Hindu
culture. Thus, no plot summary is
going to do it justice. It's a long
movie, at 170 minutes (for you non-
math students, that's almost three
hours).
