Senior Allen Jefferson has been
hampered with injuries his entire
career which has caused him to
lose some of his speed. In high
school, Jefferson ran the 100
meter in 10.3 seconds, the fastest
meet times since Jesse Owens. He
has rushed for 733 yards in his
career with the Wolverines,
including 380 last season - most
in mop up duty.
Sophomore Vaughn starred in
the spring game, but Moeller has
been reluctant to name anyone as
an outright starter. On Tuesday,
Moeller said Vaughn and
Jefferson would rotate at the

tailback slot with rookie Ricky
Powers also seeing action. Moeller
may not decide until midway
through the year on who his full
time starter will be.
"Michigan's always had depth
at running back and this year
we're a little bit more shallow
because me and Jon are the only
ones that have played," Jefferson
said. "Hopefully, me and Jon will
stay healthy and play strong and
if not, we always have confidence
that one of the younger guys will
play. They're looking for starters
they can depend on but for now."
That younger guy appears to

be Ricky Powers. Powers came to
Michigan along with running
backs Juan Kemp and Jesse
Johnson, all stars in high school.
The Akron, Ohio native was the
number one prospect on the
Detroit Free Press' "Best of the
Midwest" list and was named the
number one prep player in the
nation by The Dallas Morning
News. "He has been impressive in
camp. There's no question about
that," Moeller said.
